This movie makes you feel that is a prequel to Harry Potter. The only problem is the only thing Harry Potter about this movie is a 5 second score, the name drops and that is about it. Its just part of the universe but you don't feel any connection to the past movie. That said, watching this without watching Harry Potter will leave you utterly confused. Nothing make sense to a first time viewer. Now to the good part. The movie was awesome. The creatures from the mind of J.K Rowling are amazing and fun to look at. There are only a couple of beasts loose in the city so the movie is only 50% monster hunting. Another 50% is devoted to the bad guy (which is a surprise cameo in the end). The only problem I can see is that the B plotline doesn't serve any purpose in the movie. If you take it out, the movie is still good on its own. But you need a villain exposition in the movie for the movie to at least have some stakes.
