Super Mario Odyssey

First game of the new year. It's been a while.

What is it about?
Bowser has kidnapped Peach (as usual) and a sentient tiara in order to force them to marry him. So Mario and a sentient cap (named cappy) needs to travel in a hot air balloon between kingdoms to rescue them.

Things I liked:
- Gameplay is spot on Mario. This game reminds me of Super Mario 64 where you need to execute timed precise jumps in order to get to the next platform.
- Every world you visit is like going to a new game. Each world is littered with things to do. There are power moons to collect to power up your Odyssey (the name of the hot air balloon). Exploring is the key in getting all the moons
- Mario is now a cosplayer where he needs to dress up in different outfits in order to fit the mood of the kingdom. The animation will change depending on how comfortable or uncomfortable he is.
- There are 2D sections where Mario change into his 8-bit self (including the music and costume) is a fun addition.
- Cappy has the ability to posses any living thing (that is not wearing a cap) and you can control it. The results are funny and entertaining at the same time
- Lots and lots of minigames that range from fun to down right frustrating.
- Collecting purple coins that are native to the kingdom to buy souvenirs at the shop provides with hours of fun

Things I didn't like:
- Frustrating minigames that requires hours and hours of your time to complete. Jump rope 100 times comes to mind (had to use a glitch for this trick)
- Some kingdoms overstayed their welcome like the wooded kingdom, snow kingdom and Bowser's kingdom.
- The Dark Side is the game for the hardcore... The Darker Side is for the crazy hardcore.
- Some power moons are impossible to find without a guide.
- Taking a picture clues to find in another kingdom.
- Swimming without the cheep cheep.

Overall: One of the best games I've played in a long time. A good way to start 2018 and the first game I've played on the Switch is superb.

Status: 100% the game will all power moons, outfits and coins. Got an awesome postcard below




Verdict: Spectacular... A true masterpiece

I'm noticing a trend here

So far my DOWN days are attributed to my wife. If she is not ok, I am not that ok. It would take a big event to negate her not ok to an UP

Week 4
1) Date with wife to Ikea - UP
2) Writing as usual - UP
3) Went to the hospital for wife checkup, pineapples - UP
4) Wife was not feeling well - DOWN
5) Renovation approved, everyone is happy, got chicken rice - UP
6) Played scrabble - UP
7) Tired of packing, wife bad mood - DOWN

UP: 20 Down: 8

It was almost a perfect week... almost

Week 3
1) got a GPD WIN 2, final class presentation and free food - UP
2) Errand running the whole day, played multiplayer switch with family - UP
3) Hang out with naza and maswani form work - UP
4) Hang out with Dela's friends for lunch - UP
5) Nothing eventful happen on Friday - UP
6) Wife's family and mom came down and we all a great time during dinner - UP
7) renovation was not approve by mom, wife got a fight with her mom, wife bad mood, spnd 330 on kids shoes - DOWN

Up: 15 Down: 9

So the main issue is our room did not get renovated since my mom didn't want to spend an extra 20000 for it. Sigh... wife is feeling down because she didn't get what she wants. I have the money but she doesn't want me to use it. I wonder what happens if I use it without her permission.

Geostorm

First movie of 2018 is a movie from last year 

What is it about: The earth controls a satellite that controls the weather. What happens when it malfunctions?

The good: 

- The movie doesn't overwhelm with the emotional stuff. It's just the right amount of heart 

- Action is on point. The special effects are awesome and the weather effects looks to real 

- Plot of the movie is simple and entertaining 

- The girl who plays the chief engineer looks beautiful 

The bad: 

- The bad guy is too predictable 

- The ending was also predictable 

The Ugly:

- Nothing much 

After Credits: No

Verdict: Great popcorn movie. Watch at home still the same. 

2nd week was not going great

This 2nd week was a bummer. I got rejected for another scholarship that is not even my fault. Man I am pissed. But there is nothing much I can do about it.

1) Mom came to visit - UP

2) Played overcook with wife and LOL - UP

3) Today architect came and rewrite the house, still am loss with my masters research - DOWN

4) got a deadline, had a fight with wife about her mother - DOWN

5) Didn't get the university scholarship because I didn't received the email - Extremely DOWN 

6) Lazy Saturday. Overcooked until 2AM - UP

7) Weekend out with kids - UP

Hopefully week 3 fares better. It's hard to get perfect week. 

First post of the new year

Well it took a while. First I was super busy with Super Mario Odyssey. Besides that we are moving back to our house. So I have something new to post... Weekly highlights of what the eventful things that happen during the week and weather is and UP or DOWN highlight (or lowlight)

Week 1
1) Teach hana how to ride a bike. Eat a nice BBQ dinner - UP
2) Neck hurts like a S.O.B -DOWN
3) Throat has a sticky feeling - DOWN
4) Lunch with ex colleagues, got Duke back, had a fun time chatting with the dr, scholarship applications rejected - UP
5) Hang out with Kak June - UP
6) Lazy Saturday - UP7) Back home - UP
