Difficulty: Hard (Even when this game is set on easy)

What is it about: Follow the events of the second Batman movie from start till finish

What's great: 
Fighting is spot on
Two different weapons (The batarang which serve as no function and the grappling hook which will get you from left to right in a flash)
Batmobile has a section where you fight goons on motorcyle
Lots and lots of clowns
There is a test tube where you use it to kill everyone in the background

What's not so great:
Enemies are relentless. The fire clown and the sword clown are specifically frustrating to fight
Bosses are cheap when it comes to attack and they need to be hit multiple times
You are basically just weatching a short version of the movie

Music: OK. Chiptunes of the classic Batman movie theme
Status: Finish the game
Should you play this game: Yes, its a great beat em up game that is good for short burst of play

Thor Ragnarok

The funniest Marvel movie to date 

What is it about: Thor loses everything and sets out  in a journey of self discovery to save himself and his people.

The good:

Chris Hemsworth does a lot of comedy in this movie which is good 

Loki plays a good part in this movie

Hulk is awesome in this movie, he plays a    4 year old

Mark Ruffulo kills it in this movie 

Suprise Marvel cameos and uncredited cameos 

Thor storyline is awesome 

Korg 

Jeff Goldblum performance is the most he is 

The Bad

Hela was an ok villain. Her scene felt forced and bored

Odin was not that long in the movie which is sad 

The endgame is ok I guess 

The Ugly 

Nothing much. The movie is ok 

After credits: Yes 

Verdict: One of the best movies in 2017 one of the best Marvel movies. 

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

The letter B has no good Genesis games

What's is it about: Minnie has been kidnap and you need to get 7 emeralds to free her

What's great:
Platforming is very precise. A sudden misstep can spell disaster
You also have a projectile to attack enemies
Jump once and jump again to do a but stop
The game is very very linear. You really can't get lost

What's not so great:
Hit detection is very precise. A single mistake and you will lose your life
The bosses are too easy. There is a pattern for everything
Some items cause you to instantly die

Music: Ok. Lots of organ tracks
Status: Finish the game and rescued Minnie
Should you play this game: No, it's not that fun.

Adventures of Batman and Robin

Now this is how you do a Batman game

Game no: 272 

Genre: Action 

Platform: SNES 

  

Difficulty: Challenging 

What is it about: Play as Batman from the animated series and fight your way among his rogues gallery

What's great: 

Animation is spot on

Each mission follows a specific theme

There is variety of gameplay. There will be a stage where you drive the batmobile 

Before each mission batman needs to select his gadgets needed for the mission. If you forgot to pack the right one you can just return back to the batcave 

Wall jumping and using grappling hook

The final stage is a boss rush mode 

The riddler stage is amazing and also hard as nails 

What's not so great:

The game is unforgiving. Make a mistake and you die. 

The batmobile handling is very stiff

SNES vs Genesis version 

Graphics = SNES version is more detailed = 1 point SNES
Gameplay = SNES version is more varied then the Genesis version = 1 point SNES
Sound = SNES has music fromthe show and Genesis just have some chip tunes = 1 point SNES

SNES is the better version

Music: Masterpiece. The entire Bamtan soundtrack is played during every stage with slight variations 

Status: Finish all 8 stages 

Should you play this game: Yes, the game is spectacular. 

Alien Soldier

Game with just a boss rush mode

Genre: Shooter

Platform: Genesis 

 

Difficulty: Insane 

What is it about: Play as an alien soldier (which looks like a humanoid eagle) and you are task to destroy all the other aliens. 

What's great:

Choose from six different weapons with different hit ranges (fire homing is the easiest to use)

25 stages with 20 seconds intervals from the next boss

Each bosses are unique in design and have different hit points 

There are unlimited continues so you will die a lot of times 

Graphics is 2D graphics overlay with another 3D graphics 

What's not so great: 

The game is insanely difficult and you need to beat the boss before the timer ends 

You only get 4-5 hits before you die. and you will die a lot 

Music: So-so

Status: Played the game until stage 17 and youtube the rest 

Should you play this game: Yes, this game challenges your reflexes and skills to beat each bosses 

Arkanoid Doh it Again

Arkanoid for the SNES

Genre: Action 

Platform: SNES 

 

Difficulty: Moderate 

What is it about: Well there is story where you guide a spaceship to an alien world exploring... But I wouldn't go deep into that 

What's great: 

Simple breakout gameplay with added power ups and twist 

Power ups include multiball, laser, force field, warp, long pipe, powerball, slowdown

Boss battles which is a first 

What's not so great: 

Some of the stages are a pain to finish. There is just one block but it will take forever to hit 

Game get repetitive after a while 

Music: None existent. There just the jingle and a lot more beeps and bops 

Status: Finish the game till level 33 out of 99

Should you play this game: No, gets to repetitive after a while 

Aladdin

2017 revisited

The game is not that hard the second playthrough

Genre: Action

Difficulty: Moderate

What is it about: Follows the hit movie Aladdin 

What's great: 

Hand drawn animation by the Disney animators

Colorful bright stages 

The Genies lamp as hard as it is.. still is great 

What's not so great: 

Last time I said this is a platformer but there it plays more like an action game. 

The last boss is a bit of a let down

The carpet stage is also BS

SNES vs Genesis

SNES is a bit slower while Genesis is faster = 1 point Genesis 

Gameplay on the SNES is much more fun = 1 point SNES

Combat on the genesis is better = 1 point Genesis 

Graphics on the Genesis version is more superior = 1 point Genesis 

Bosses on the SNES version is more challenging = 1 point SNES

Music on the Genesis version is better = 1 point Genesis 

The Genesis port is the better game 

Music: A masterpiece, they manage to put the whole movie soundtrack in the game 

Status: Finish the game till the end credit 

Should you play this game: Yes, its a great Genesis game.

Aladdin

When the music comes on, you will want to sign along 

Game no: 269

Genre: Platformer

Platform: SNES

 

Difficulty: Moderate

What is it about: It follows the hit movie Aladdin with a few different things that is not in the movie 

What's great:

Platforming is spot on.

Use apples to hit the bad guys

The cut scenes are a nice break after a long stage

The genie's lamp is very challenging

The final boss is great

Collecting gems will earn you an extra heart

What's not so great:

You don't use your feet like traditional platformer, instead you will use your hands every time he lands. This will cause awkward landings due to the fact you are making a 360 degree turn. Even you kill the boss by doing a handstand on their head.

Gameplay is quite slow means that enemies are not rushing at you. The magic carpet ride is also slow

Music: Catchy. A whole new world and a lot of new music 

Status: Finish the game until the end credits

Should you play this game: Yes. The SNES version is a different experience from the Genesis version which I will go onto next

After Burner II

A classic arcade game

Genre: Action

Platform: Sega Genesis 

  

Difficulty: Insane 

What is this game about?

You pilot a F-18 towards a barrage of enemies to try to survive their bullets 

What's great:

The game is face paced 

Auto fire machine gun

More than 200 homing missiles 

Weather cycles with different terrain and soundtrack

What's not so great:

Machine gun has little to no effects 

Onces you are out of missiles you die 

Dying is so easy in this game

Music: Ok. Tunes are quite nice 

Status: Played until level 5. Keep on dying over and over again

Should you play this game: No, it's not a fun game.

Aero Fighters

Another generic bullet hell shooter

Game no: 268
Genre: Shooter
Platform: SNES

 

Difficulty: Hard

What is it about: Play as fighters from different region and you shoot down other bad guys from different regions as well

What's great:
Different fighters with different bombs and attributes
Challenging bullet hell gameplay
Difficultly settting

What's not so great:
Bullet are erratic and hard to predict
If you run out of lives you need to restart at the beginning of the game 

Music:So-So. Nothing that stands out
Status: Finish the game with Irem... There are other characters but not sure how to get them
Should you play this game: Yes, a great shooter to challenge your skills. Preferably two players

Adventures of Batman and Robin

A batman game that is hard as nails

Game no: 267

Genre: Shooter 

Platform: Sega Genesis 

 

Difficulty: Insane

What is it about: You play either as Batman or Robin and navigate 4 levels while fighting Batman's rogues gallery 

What is great: 

3 different power ups to choose from. 

Animation is fluid 

There are a couple of 3D sections 

There are flight missions 

What's not so great:

Batman can't walk while shooting. This will cause him to be a sitting duck. 

The power up requires a couple of seconds to charge but enemies come at you from all sides. 

Bullet pattern is erratic at best 

Music: So-So. There is no catchy batman  tunes 

Status: Finish all 4 levels of the game. Even with cheats

Should you play: No, it's not a fun game since you'll just be avoiding bullets everywhere.

The 16-bit console war begins now

Genesis does... what Nintendont. Oh so they say during the 90's. I wouldn't know since my household has a no console policy during that time so I mainly stick to handhelds as my primary mode of gaming. So to figure out if the 16-bit era was truly great I am going to play all the games side by side to see who has the better library



On the genesis corner : 776 games

A couple of criteria needs to be established

• Games will be selected by fun factor so I am not going to play all the titles in it
• I will also try my best to play RPG's (which a genre I don't quite like) and also sports 
• For every game from a console is done, I will switch to the next 16-bit console. It will be Genesis and SNES vice versa
• The same games will be played for both console. For fighting games will be played for both half of consoles. Like 6 characters for Mortal Kombat for genesis and 6 for SNES
• Reviews will also change

Neo Geo

History 
No history with this console. But this console is the home version of the arcade machine. I did hear that this console is very expensive to come by.

The Games
The Neo Geo console is built on arcade ports. So it's has tons of fighting games, shooters and sports. It has the occasional racing and puzzle games as well. Most of the games are recommended to be played with two players. 

The Good 
The pixel art is amazing. Games like Garou has frame by frame pixel art which looks amazing. Some games combines 3d background images with 2d pixel arts. Other than that, the games are addictive in nature. It's a good thing that you have unlimited continues which means you can play the games from start to finish. 

The Bad
Some games perspective is a bit wired. The player will occupy 70% of the screen which makes playing the game a little to hard. Furthermore, some of the games look like they were design on a shoe string budget. The pixel arts only have a couple sprite animation per character and most of the games are just another generic fighter, shooter or sports game. They also recycle most of their sprite work for every game that comes the following year. 

The Ugly
The difficulty on some arcade games are borderline insane. The computer knows when to block and attack which makes playing the game not fun (I'm looking at you samurai shodown). The controls for some games doesn't translate well in 2D. 

ConclusionA great console that would be even better if you get a friend to play with you. Now phase 1 is almost complete. Is down to the main event.

Does this game holds up?
The game where you throw a disc and try to score a goal at the opposite side of the court
Its like tennis + football but where you control a flying disc
6 stages each with its own different nets
Each characters has a balance of speed and power. The more speed means you are fast to catch the disc and the more power means your attacks can push the opponent through the goal
Build up your charge to make crazy super moves
Games are 2 rounds with 30 seconds on the clock. A lot can happen in 30 seconds

Status: Beat all the players from each different countries
Fun Factor: Spectacular.. worth to be played multiple times

The King of Fighters 2003

Finally.. the save the best for last

Does this game holds up?
The roster is the smallest among the rest of the games but all your best fighters are there
There is only 1 round with 3 on 3 fighting on the fly. You can change any characters on the fly
Gone are the strikers but you can execute a super and tag your character as the same time
The boss is not OP in this game. It is beatable which is great
There is a story mode but I wasn't paying attention

The King of Fighters 2002

2 more years for KOF

Does this game holds up?
They seem to recycle the sprites from 1999. The sprites are still the same since 5 years ago
Now you can't pick 4 fighters. One is back to the striker.
The boss is also over powered. No matter if you can use the extra feature to make the game easier after you lose.

Status: Played the game until the final boss
Fun Factor: A great way to waste your time.

The King of Fighters 2001

Another year another KOF

Genre: Fighting
Platform: Neo Geo

 

Does this game holds up?
Love the artwork of the select character screen
Now you can choose either 4 players to fight or 3 players as strikers. The more strikers you have. the more super move you can execute. Frankly I rather have an extra player in the team since sometimes 3 isn't enough.
This is the worse boss of them all. He has a lion as his striker.

Status: Played the game until the final boss
Fun Factor: A great way to waste your time.

The King of Fighters 2000

More fighters and a change in gameplay

Does the game holds up?
This time you pick 4 fighters with the fourth being a Striker.
The Striker (single power strike) when you need it (it quite tricky to execute)
Venessa, K', Terry and Ryo are my favorite fighters to use.
The boss is still overpowered and cheats

Status: Played until the final boss
Fun Factor: A great way to waste your time (better with a 2nd player)

The King of Fighters '99

The KOF series started at 94... It took 5 years to make it decent

Does this game holds up?
The fighting is fast paced with multiple characters to choose from
It gives you a good difficulty curve and lets you choose an easier setting when you lose
The last boss is too over powered and cheats all the time.

Status: Played the game until the final boss and keep on losing
Fun Factor: All fighting games are great to play in two players but for single player is a great way to waste your time

SvC Chaos - SNK vs Capcom

When SNK got the ability to make a Capcom vs fighter

Does this game holds up?
SNK characters vs Capcom characters (Mostly KOF vs Street Fighter II )
There are some Samurai Shodown characters as well as from Darkstakers
Art for the Capcom side looks like SNK characters

Fun Factor: Great way to waste time
